INFISA Attend Seafood Task Force and IOM Meeting, Strengthening Commitment to Responsible Recruitment in the Fisheries Sector

Semarang, Indonesia – May 1, 2025 – The Indonesian Fisherman Association (INFISA) actively participated in an important event organized by the Seafood Task Force (STF) in Indonesia. The meeting, which focused on the “Responsible Recruitment” program, took place from April 28 to May 1, 2025, and was attended by various stakeholders in the fisheries industry.

INFISA’s presence in this forum underscored the urgency of implementing ethical and fair recruitment practices for workers in the fisheries sector. FCF Co., Ltd. also attended as one of the speakers, sharing experiences and insights related to efforts in implementing responsible recruitment. This aligns with the ongoing collaboration between INFISA and FCF Co., Ltd. through the “Responsible Recruitment Project,” initiated in 2021, which aims to build better standards and recruitment processes for fishing vessel crews worldwide.

Muhamad Charul Hadi of INFISA stated, “Our involvement, together with industry partners like FCF Co., Ltd., in this discussion with the Seafood Task Force is a tangible manifestation of collaborative efforts to protect Indonesian fishers. Responsible recruitment is key to preventing forced labor and exploitation, and to supporting the advancement of the fisheries industry. Our joint project with FCF since 2021 has been a crucial foundation in these efforts.”

During the four-day event, FCF Co., Ltd. outlined the steps the company has taken and will take to ensure its supply chain implements responsible recruitment principles. This includes verification of recruitment agencies, provision of accurate information to prospective workers, and the development of effective grievance mechanisms, in line with the general objectives of the STF-led program.

INFISA, through its involvement in the Responsible Recruitment Project since 2021, views this as an excellent platform to strengthen collaboration and share best practices with other stakeholders.

It is hoped that through discussions and shared commitments in this forum, as well as the strengthening of ongoing projects like the one between INFISA and FCF Co., Ltd., concrete steps will emerge to reinforce the implementation of responsible recruitment throughout the fisheries supply chain. This will ultimately enhance the image of fishery products in the global market and, most importantly, improve the livelihoods of fishers.
