INDONESIA – Leading Mauritanian fishing company, Alpha Fish, Sarl, today conducted direct interviews and selection processes for Indonesian fishing vessel candidates. This recruitment drive aims to fill a range of positions aboard the company's modern Purse Seine fishing vessels, from Captain and officers to deckhands.
The selection event, facilitated in Jakarta, emphasized stringent candidate qualifications in compliance with the international Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) and the specific Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Fishing Vessel Personnel (STCW-F). In addition to certification, relevant experience on similar types of fishing vessels was a key criterion for the attending candidates.
This process is fully supported by the Indonesian Fisherman Association (INFISA) as part of its flagship "Responsible Recruitment" program. The program is designed to ensure that all recruitment processes for Indonesian fishing crews are conducted ethically, transparently, and in accordance with applicable national and international regulations.
The Chairman of INFISA stated, "We warmly welcome the initiative from Alpha Fish, Sarl, which demonstrates their commitment to ethical recruitment practices. This is a significant step forward for the fishing industry. By ensuring a proper process from the very beginning, we can minimize potential labor issues in the future, such as exploitation and disputes."
INFISA's support aligns with the growing global market demand for seafood products sourced from a clean supply chain, free from forced labor or human rights violations. "Ethical recruitment is no longer an option, but a necessity. International consumers and markets are increasingly aware of this issue. Companies that adopt these practices not only contribute to the welfare of seafarers but also enhance their own business competitiveness on the global stage," he added.

Observing the clear benefits of this collaboration, INFISA is openly inviting other vessel owners and fishing companies in worldwide to participate in the "Responsible Recruitment" program.
"There are numerous benefits for companies that join. Besides securing competent and professional crews, companies will also build a reputation as responsible business entities. This will open doors to broader and more sustainable partnerships in the future," urged the INFISA representative.
Through the synergy between international fishing companies like Alpha Fish, Sarl and local associations such as INFISA, it is hoped that a fairer, more humane, and advanced fishing industry ecosystem can be created, ensuring that Indonesian seafarers can work safely and prosperously in global waters.
