INFISA Conducts Annual Assessment at PT Nurindo Maju Perkasa (Crewing Agency ), Strengthening Responsible Crewing Standards

JAKARTA, June 10, 2025 – The Indonesian Fisherman Association (INFISA), a leading advocate for the protection of Indonesian migrant fishermen, today conducted its annual assessment at the offices of PT Nurindo Maju Perkasa, a Jakarta-based crewing agency. This activity is a crucial part of the “Responsible Recruitment Program” initiated by INFISA to ensure the recruitment process for fishing vessel crews is fair, transparent, and free from exploitative practices.

An assessment team from INFISA performed an in-depth evaluation of the operational systems and procedures implemented by PT Nurindo Maju Perkasa. The assessment aims to verify the agency’s compliance with Indonesian Government Regulations and international labor standards that protect the rights of seafarers, such as ILO C-181, ILO C-188, MLC 2006, and other relevant audit standards.

The General Secretary of INFISA, Mr. Chairul Hadi, who directly supervised the assessment, emphasized the critical role of agencies in protecting prospective crew members from the very beginning of the process.

“The responsibility to protect our fishermen begins here, at the recruitment desk,” stated Mr. Hadi. “Today’s assessment at PT Nurindo Maju Perkasa is part of our ongoing commitment to ensure every partner agency implements the ‘zero cost’ or no-fee recruitment principle, provides clear Seafarer’s Employment Agreements (SEA), and maintains a robust protection mechanism. We want to prevent any crew member from departing with an unclear employment status or falling into debt bondage.”

The assessment process at PT Nurindo Maju Perkasa covered several key evaluation points, including:

  • Verification of Company Documents: Reviewing the completeness and validity of the Business License for Recruitment and Placement of Ship Crew (SIUPPAK).
  • Audit of the Recruitment Process: Interviewing staff and reviewing workflows to ensure no illegal fees are charged to prospective crew members.
  • Review of Employment Agreements: Analyzing the content of Seafarer’s Employment Agreements (SEAs) to ensure compliance with minimum wage, working hours, social security, and other normative rights.
  • Facilities and Training: Inspecting pre-departure training facilities and the materials provided to prospective crew members.
  • Grievance Mechanism: Evaluating the company’s system for handling complaints from crew members working abroad.

The President Director of PT Nurindo Maju Perkasa, Mr. Nurfitri, welcomed the assessment as an opportunity to enhance the company’s quality and credibility.

“We view the assessment from INFISA not as a test, but as a strategic partnership. We fully support the ‘Responsible Recruitment’ program and are committed to conducting our business with integrity,” said Mr. Nurfitri. “The feedback and evaluation from INFISA are invaluable for us to continue making improvements and to prove that PT Nurindo Maju Perkasa is a trustworthy and reliable agency for our nation’s heroes of foreign exchange.”

The results of this assessment will form the basis for INFISA to grant certification or provide recommendations for improvement to PT Nurindo Maju Perkasa. It is hoped that through this rigorous process, the entire ecosystem of the fishing crew placement industry in Indonesia can move towards higher global standards, ensuring maximum protection for every Indonesian fisherman.
