Indonesian Fisherman Association (INFISA) Expresses Full Support for ILO Meeting on Fair Labour Market Guidelines for Migrant Fishers

Jakarta, 28 October 2025 – The Indonesian Fisherman Association (INFISA) today expresses its full and professional support for the “Meeting of Experts on Guidelines for Fair Labour Market Services for Migrant Fishers”. This crucial meeting, convened by the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Geneva, Switzerland, from 27-31 October 2025, is focused on the discussion and adoption of the “Draft Guidelines for fair labour market services for migrant fishers”.

INFISA views this meeting as a critical step forward. The proposed guidelines are intended to “assist governments and the social partners in promoting fair labour market services for migrant fishers”. This is a vital initiative to establish global standards that will ensure tangible improvements in the welfare, fundamental rights protection, and future of Indonesian migrant fishers worldwide.

Specifically, INFISA wishes to extend its appreciation and spirited support to the expert delegates dedicated to formulating these guidelines.

  • Our warm support is extended to Mr. Cor Blonk, Chairman of the FISH Platform. His leadership and insight are highly valued in guiding the discussion toward practical and equitable solutions.
  • We also convey our strong professional support to the delegate from Indonesia, Mr. Imron Natsir Natsir of The Employers’ Association of Indonesia (APINDO). His presence as an employers’ expert is essential to ensuring the guidelines are balanced and can be effectively implemented by the industry.
  • Support is also extended to all other Indonesian delegates, including the government experts from the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries and the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Indonesia in Geneva.

This solid tripartite collaboration in Geneva reflects a shared commitment to addressing complex challenges such as fair recruitment practices, clear work agreements, and on-board protections.

INFISA is hopeful that these detailed discussions will proceed smoothly and result in robust, comprehensive, and applicable guidelines. We are committed to participating in the dissemination and implementation of these guidelines in Indonesia following their adoption. This is a significant moment to ensure that our migrant fishers, as global protein heroes, receive the dignified treatment and protection they deserve.

We wish the Meeting of Experts success and trust it will bring lasting, positive change to the global fishing industry.

Sincerely,

Indonesian Fisherman Association (INFISA)
